Why does nothing surprise us?

A NYT editorial written by Maureen Dowd that explores George Bush's arrogance and generally chipper state of well-being lately, and a link to a NYT article "Under Bush, a New Age of Prepackaged TV News" that examines the Bush government's production and release of television news segments, or "covert propoganda" that (imagine that) endorse the goverment and pass themselves off as legitimate.

From that article:

"Under the Bush administration, the federal government has aggressively used a well-established tool of public relations: the prepackaged, ready-to-serve news report that major corporations have long distributed to TV stations to pitch everything from headache remedies to auto insurance. In all, at least 20 federal agencies, including the Defense Department and the Census Bureau, have made and distributed hundreds of television news segments in the past four years, records and interviews show. Many were subsequently broadcast on local stations across the country without any acknowledgement of the government's role in their production."

  • Yes, this is perhaps one of the dirtiest of Bush & Co.'s tricks. What's worse, though, is the fact that they haven't been taken to task on it. There was a reprimand for the way they used taxpayer money to pay the Sec. of Education to promote No Child Left Behind on news progrmas. But that's all. And does it pass the "Is this less unprincipled than a blow job from an intern" test? No. No. And No.

  • And no.

How are you lately? We miss you and Alistair so much. What are you plans for the summer? I wish we were going to be back (in North America, that is) long enough to do some visiting. The summer after this one, I suppose. You just reminded me that I should check out your blog again. Will do that- now.
